Our Pastor's Story
Missionary PR. Mbabazi Deo Oburye is a transformative leader, pastor, and missionary whose life profoundly embodies the integration of deep faith with courageous social action. As the Founder of Missionaries of the Great Commission (MGC), he spearheads a congregation dedicated to holistic ministry, seamlessly blending fervent evangelism with unwavering advocacy for human rights, community development, and environmental stewardship.
Born into a devout Catholic family, Deo’s early life was shaped by the principled example of his late parents, Aloysius and Farazia Rwanika. These formative experiences instilled in him a profound empathy for the oppressed and a lifelong commitment to justice and freedom. By the tender age of 14, he was already actively engaged in environmental and Fundamental human rights activism, driven by an innate conviction that nature, given by God, must be responsibly stewarded, not recklessly exploited. This conviction finds its deepest roots in Genesis 2:15, where “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” For Deo, this verse is not merely ancient history but a living mandate: humanity is called to be gardeners of God’s creation, cultivating and protecting it as an act of worship.
At the age of 18, Deogratious’s spiritual journey deepened through personal encounters with Christ, leading him to embrace Born-Again faith and ministry. This profound conversion solidified his calling, transforming his early convictions into a clear mandate for pastoral and missionary leadership. For Deo, evangelism, Peace and justice are inseparable; discipleship, he believes, must transform both individual hearts and societal systems. He is compelled by the prophetic summons of Micah 6:8: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” This verse serves as the moral compass for his life and ministry—a call to humility before God, mercy toward the broken, and justice for the oppressed.
This conviction is the bedrock of MGC, which he founded in 2017, committing to Evangelism and church planting, creation stewardship, biblically-centered social development, and Christ-centered peace and justice. His leadership reflects a rare synthesis of theological seriousness, grassroots activism, environmental conscience, and structured mission strategy. Mbabazi has initiated global and regional campaigns for ecological protection and human dignity, engaging national institutions on critical issues ranging from wetland conservation, freedoms and rights protection to advocating against predatory microfinance practices that affect ordinary Ugandans. In every engagement, he echoes the words of Isaiah 1:17: “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” For Deo, this is not political activism but prophetic obedience—giving voice to the voiceless and standing in the gap for those whom society has forgotten or tend to ignore.
He has been appointed on various CBOs, local and regional NGO boards, bringing a Christ-centered perspective to development discourse. Yet, amidst all these engagements, his vision remains deeply pastoral: to see individuals, families, and communities experience the fullness of life that God intends. He is driven by the promise of John 10:10, where Jesus declares, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” This abundant life is not limited to spiritual salvation alone but encompasses physical well-being, social dignity, economic opportunity, and harmony with creation.
Pr. Deo is married to Agatha Mbabazi Nasasiira, and together they are being blessed with children. He remains a steadfast servant of Christ, a courageous defender of the vulnerable, and a diligent steward of creation driven by the unwavering conviction that the Great Commission must be finished, transforming the whole person and the whole world.
